last summer's trip
today i was absolutely useless. i woke up early.. to go and eat dimsum; came home, and passed out for 5 hours straight. now i wide awake. so i decided to post up some of my pics from last summer when we tripped out to mexico (no i am not mexican) for my uncles wedding. we visited the pyramid of the sun, which is the largest building in Teotihuacan, and one of the largest in Mesoamerica. these pyramids are found along the Avenue of the Dead, which is in between the Pyramid of the Moon and the Ciudadela. the steps are pretty steep, and we were told that the pyramid was built that way so that our backs are never to the gods, since you have to walk down the pyramid sideways. it was pretty cool, and once you get down you are bombarded with people selling all kinds of religious trinkets and carved figurines.
the pyramid didn't look too bad when i first saw it. i was wrong. my brothers and i are getting ready to race to the top, but i lost. my brothers feet are smaller than mine. plus i was pretty damn scared i'd fall. we also visited the Basilica of Guadalupe. there are 5 roman catholic churches in the same complex and the architecture was amazing. The Old Basilica is officially known as the "Templo Expiatorio a Cristo Rey" and it is actually sinking much like the leaning tower of pisa because the church is built on a former lake. as a result, the newer basilica was built. i was trying to capture the leaning bit, and i'm not sure if you can tell from this picture. it started to rain when we got there, so i wasn't able to take as much pictures.
unfortunently because i had to come back to rochester early for RA training, i missed going to cancun with my family =(
